Professional edge processing and clean edge bonding are crucial for a high-quality tile finish – especially with modern large formats made from porcelain stoneware or natural stone. With well-designed tools from Karl Dahm and the innovative AKEMI Colour Bond / Everclear systems, tile edges can be cut precisely, bonded perfectly and aesthetically highlighted.
Depending on the material and application, different tools are required. For processing narrow skirting boards, fine edges or mitre cuts, Karl Dahm offers a wide range of specialised tools:
The Milling and Cutting Slide Art. 40667 is guided along the tile edge. Combined with the adjustable electric angle grinder Art. 40265 and the Turbo Diamond Cutting Disc Art. 50260, precise and clean cuts are achieved in no time. The full set is available under Art. No. 42667.
An optional table attachment (e.g. Art. 40708) ensures safe handling even with narrow pieces. Mitre cuts between 40–50° are easily possible. For added versatility, we recommend the Allround Cutting and Grinding Disc Art. 50352, suitable for porcelain and soft natural stone.
After cutting, chamfering the edge is essential to prevent chipping. The Chamfering Slide Art. 40701 can be adjusted continuously between 22–90° and ensures a consistent finish. The Powerspeed Grinding Disc Art. 50488 (Grit 50) ensures strong material removal with long service life and smooth grinding results.
When working with thick patio slabs or natural stone up to 2 cm, a stone cutting machine such as the Karl Dahm Super Cut (e.g. Art. 30071 with 1000 mm cutting length) is essential. In combination with the TERR-Ultra Diamond Blade, precise and chip-free cuts are guaranteed – even on hard porcelain stoneware.
The AKEMI Colour Bond system is a state-of-the-art 2-component adhesive designed for visible interior edge bonding. Its key feature: the adhesive is available in over 50 colours, making it possible to perfectly match the tile material’s shade – for a seamless and discreet look.
Application: Gel-like consistency for easy handling
Working time: approx. 6–7 minutes (temperature dependent)
Finish: Can be polished perfectly after curing
Cartridge system: Side-by-side cartridges (e.g. Art. 12070), used with the 2-component joint press gun Art. 11126
Accessories: Mixing nozzles in a pack of 12 (Art. 12070), one nozzle included per cartridge
Especially practical for solid-colour or patterned natural stone: Colour Bond Magic Colours adapt visually to the surrounding material – ideal for lively surfaces and varying colour gradients. The six Magic Colours are: Magic Beige, Magic Brown, Magic Grey, Magic Black, Magic White and Magic Cream.
For outdoor use, such as terraces, façades or balconies, the AKEMI Everclear system is the ideal choice. This 2-component adhesive offers maximum weather resistance and is nearly non-yellowing – even with prolonged UV exposure.
Use: For light, large-format ceramic coverings outdoors
Application: With press gun Art. 12970 or 12987
Colours: 6 subtle tones available
Features: Suitable for wide adhesive joints, strong adhesion, UV-stable, weatherproof
AKEMI Colour Bond is ideal for producing fine, nearly invisible edge bonds indoors. Thanks to the wide range of color shades, the adhesive can be matched precisely to natural stone, porcelain stoneware and ceramics, resulting in discreet and visually harmonious joints.
AKEMI Everclear, in contrast, is formulated for outdoor conditions. It remains stable under UV exposure, shows minimal yellowing, and withstands weather influences such as rain, frost and temperature fluctuations. Its higher durability and bonding strength also make it suitable for wider or more heavily stressed joints in exterior environments.
For precise cuts on skirting boards, edges and narrow profiles, the edge trimming and cutting carriage (Art. 40667) is used together with a compatible angle grinder and high-quality cutting disc. This ensures stable tool guidance and uniform cutting results.
When working with thicker, harder materials such as large-format porcelain stoneware or natural stone, a stone cutting machine such as the Super Cut (Art. 30071) is recommended. This machine ensures smooth, controlled cutting without chipping or surface damage.
The chamfering guide (Art. 40701) allows precise chamfering of tile edges at any angle between 22° and 90°. The firm guiding system ensures consistent repeatability and clean, controlled bevels.
After chamfering, the Powerspeed grinding disc (Art. 50488) is used to deburr and finely smooth the processed edge. This removes sharp areas and creates an even finish — perfect for visible edges and decorative surface transitions.
The AKEMI Colour Bond system is highly advantageous because it ensures that joints remain visually subtle. With over 50 color tones — including “Magic Colours” that adjust themselves to surrounding shades — the adhesive can be precisely matched to the stone or tile material. The adhesive cures quickly, allowing further polishing or processing shortly afterward, making it ideal for high-quality visible edges and interior corner bonding.
AKEMI Colour Bond may discolor and lose strength when exposed to UV radiation and weather. Therefore, it is not recommended for outdoor use. For exterior bonding, AKEMI Everclear is the correct choice. It is UV-resistant, highly weatherproof and designed to withstand climate changes and long-term mechanical stresses, ensuring a stable and visually durable joint.
The pot life of AKEMI Colour Bond is usually around 6–7 minutes at normal room temperature. During this period, the adhesive can be applied and positioned. After that, the curing process begins, and the joint must remain fixed. Once cured, the surface can be sanded and polished as needed.
Colour Bond comes in special cartridges that require the matching dispenser Art. 11126 to ensure precise and controlled application. For Everclear, the cartridge dispensers Art. 12970 or 12987 are used, which are sturdy and designed to handle adhesives of different viscosities — especially useful for larger or stronger joints.
AKEMI Everclear is available in six carefully selected colors, which match common neutral and light tile and porcelain hues used in outdoor areas. The color selection ensures subtle, harmonious joints that blend well with frequently chosen terrace, balcony and outdoor cladding materials.
