The Levelmac Levelling System by Karl Dahm offers tilers and tradespeople a professional solution for laying tiles and natural stone without unwanted lippage. Especially when working with large-format or calibrated tiles, precise levelling and consistent grout lines are essential for a high-quality finish. The Levelmac system has been developed with practical experience in mind, offering clear advantages for everyday use: easy handling, reusable components, and professional results – all without the need for specialist tools.
Anyone working regularly with large tiles is familiar with the issue: even the slightest irregularities in the substrate or height deviations during installation can result in lippage – an unsightly outcome that costs time, materials and effort. The Levelmac Levelling System addresses this challenge by ensuring all tiles are perfectly levelled, providing a clean and long-lasting finish.
The system aligns the tiles as they are laid, compensating for minor tolerances between adjacent pieces. This allows even large formats to be installed safely, quickly, and with excellent precision.
Before using the system, ensure the surface is flat, clean, and stable. A self-levelling compound may be necessary. The levelling system does not replace proper substrate preparation but supports the final surface alignment.
Use the buttering-floating method, applying adhesive to both the substrate and the back of the tile. This ensures full coverage and avoids voids.
Insert the threaded bases beneath the first tile into the adhesive bed. These will protrude from the grout joint and serve as a mount for the tension caps.
Position the next tile adjacent to the first so that the threaded base sits between the two. The protruding thread remains visible for the next step.
Screw the tension caps onto the threaded bases by hand. Turn until slight resistance is felt, then continue gently until both tiles are level. The system ensures a lippage-free surface.
Let the adhesive fully cure before dismantling the system.
Unscrew the tension caps – they are reusable. Break the threaded bases off at their designated snap point by kicking them in the direction of the grout line. The remnants stay under the tile and are invisible after grouting.

To get started, Karl Dahm offers practical Levelmac sets, including reusable caps and bases in various sizes. Suitable for tiles up to 12 mm and even thicker materials up to 20 mm.
Advantages of the sets:

The Levelmac system includes three types of threaded bases:
By combining different base types, even complex tile layouts can be precisely executed. Grout joint width is preset, ensuring a consistently neat result.

The tension caps are ergonomically designed and can be tightened by hand – no tools required. They are colour-coded for tile thickness:
They allow fine adjustment and can be loosened and repositioned if needed – ideal for correcting alignment without damaging the system.
The Levelmac system can be expanded with a range of accessories, including:
Stay organised and efficient with the right tools on hand.

When installing large-format tiles or natural stone, even the smallest height variations can lead to visible lippage, which not only looks unprofessional but can also be felt when walking over the floor.
The Levelmac Leveling System was developed to eliminate these height differences while the adhesive is curing. The system’s clips and tension caps hold the tiles firmly in place, ensuring a perfectly flat surface and consistent grout lines. The result is a flawless and durable tile installation — ideal for both professionals and DIY users seeking precision and aesthetic perfection.
To achieve a perfect tile surface, it’s important to use the correct number of Levelmac threaded clips. The quantity depends on the tile format and installation pattern.
As a general guideline:
• 60 × 30 cm tiles: approx. 22 clips/m²
• 60 × 60 cm tiles: approx. 11 clips/m²
• 120 × 60 cm tiles: approx. 8 clips/m²
Larger formats have fewer joints, requiring fewer clips per square meter. Proper quantity planning saves both time and costs while ensuring seamless progress during installation.
Natural stone such as marble, granite, slate, or limestone often has minor variations in thickness or surface texture. The Levelmac Leveling System compensates for these variations, ensuring that all tile edges are perfectly level. This creates a smooth, seamless appearance, which is especially important for premium natural stone installations.
The result is a refined and uniform surface, free of visual or tactile irregularities — ideal for high-end interiors and luxury finishes.
The Levelmac Leveling System was designed for easy, tool-free handling. The ergonomically shaped tension caps allow for precise manual adjustment without damaging the clips. This makes the system ideal for both professionals and DIY installers.
Additionally, the caps are reusable, making the system cost-efficient, sustainable, and easy to use — even on large projects.
Sometimes, during installation, a tile needs to be adjusted for perfect alignment. With the Levelmac System, this is quick and effortless. The threaded clip remains intact, so there’s no need to replace parts.
This flexibility allows for precise adjustments, reducing waste and improving workflow efficiency. It’s particularly useful when working with large or thin tiles, where precision is critical.
The Levelmac Leveling System ensures perfect surface alignment, but it does not replace proper adhesive application. For best results, use the buttering-floating method, applying adhesive to both the substrate and the back of the tile.
This ensures full-surface contact and prevents air pockets. The Levelmac System then takes care of the final height adjustment, holding each tile firmly in place until the adhesive has cured completely. The result is a durable, stable, and perfectly level surface.
