Grouting tools from Karl Dahm

In this section, you will find grouting tools that are used for grouting and perfecting it. Discover our wide range of products here too!

A tried and tested product that revolutionises joint cleaning is our joint tool, the Diamond joint cleaner "torpedo" 3 mm Art. 16109. Your joints have never been so perfectly clean after using the joint cleaner! The grout torpedo is easy to use and achieves quick, lasting and therefore perfect results. Quickly and easily remove algae, mould spores, limescale deposits and age-related soiling from cement joints. Even excess material after inaccurate grouting can be easily removed. You can also use the joint torpedo in hygienic areas such as hospitals - it is used without any cleaning agents or chemical detergents. Test the product on a small, inconspicuous area before working on the entire surface. If the applied width matches the joint, the sanding strip can be inserted into the groove so that the sanding strip snaps into place. Place the torpedo in the joint and move it forwards and backwards with light pressure. The dirt in the joint is removed and the original colour is restored.

Finally, the processed joint must be swept with another joint tool, a joint cleaning agent. This can be sprayed onto the joint, left to work and then rubbed in with another joint tool, the joint brush. Then wipe with a damp cloth and the joint cleaning with our joint torpedo is complete. To keep the joint clean for a long time, we recommend our joint tool, the joint protection pen - it protects the joint from new soiling and even mould.

When using this grouting tool, make sure that you apply the correct contact pressure and handle the grout cleaner with care, otherwise grouting material and neighbouring tiles may be damaged.

The joint cleaner is not suitable for tightly laid (glass) mosaics, short joints, marble, natural stone or granite. The "Joint Torpedo" joint cleaner is also not suitable for epoxy resin-bound joints, crystalline hardened joints, silicone joints, acrylic joints, paving joints and extremely coarse material. As no guidance is possible in the joint, joints with a high dispersion content or joints flush with the flooring should also be avoided.

FAQ Grouting Tools – Frequently Asked Questions About Grout Cleaning, Renovation & Application

For which types of joints are Karl Dahm grouting tools suitable?

Karl Dahm grouting tools are ideal for working on cement joints, silicone joints and acrylic joints. They can be used for applying new joints as well as repairing or refreshing existing ones.

Our grouting tools are specifically designed for professional processing of cement grout, silicone joints and acrylic joints. They provide clean edges, precise grout lines and a visually high-quality finish, whether in bathrooms, kitchens or outdoor areas. For sensitive materials such as natural stone, marble, granite or epoxy resin-based joints, specialized tools should be used to avoid scratches or surface damage.

How can I effectively remove stubborn dirt from grout?

Use the Diamond Grout Cleaning Tool (Fugentorpedo) or the Grout Cleaning Set to remove stubborn dirt without harsh chemicals.

For persistent contamination such as mold, algae, limescale or soap residue, we recommend the Diamond Grout Cleaner (Art. 16109) and the Grout Cleaning Set (Art. 11938). Both tools are designed to remove heavy deposits efficiently while protecting tiles and joint material. Because they work mechanically, no aggressive cleaning chemicals are needed. This ensures hygienically clean joints and ideal conditions for any re-grouting that may follow.

Why is thorough cleaning necessary before regrouting?

Clean joints ensure strong adhesion of new grout and prevent future issues like cracking or mold growth.

Before regrouting, all dirt, old grout residue, dust and grease must be completely removed. Contaminants act as a separation layer and reduce adhesion. This can lead to premature loosening, cracking or mold growth. Proper cleaning creates a stable surface that ensures the new grout remains durable and visually flawless.

How do I use the Diamond Grout Cleaner (Fugentorpedo) correctly?

Apply light pressure and move the tool back and forth, then brush and wipe the joint clean.

Place the Diamond Grout Cleaner in the joint and move it evenly forward and backward with light to medium pressure. The diamond-coated blade removes dirt and deposits without damaging the joint excessively. After cleaning, remove loosened material with a brush and wipe the surface with a damp cloth to finish the process.

Can I use the Diamond Grout Cleaner on natural stone or marble?

No, it is not suitable for natural stone or marble because it may scratch the surface.

The diamond coating is harder than materials like marble, granite, slate or glass mosaics. This can leave visible scratches or dull spots. For natural stone and sensitive surfaces, use specialized natural stone-safe cleaning tools to avoid surface damage.

What are silicone smoothing tools and when should I use them?

Silicone smoothing tools shape freshly applied silicone joints and ensure even, professional results.

Silicone smoothing tools are made of flexible specialty rubber that adapts perfectly to the joint profile. They help remove excess silicone, prevent uneven edges and create a clean, uniform joint finish. They are ideal for showers, sinks, kitchen counters and window joints – anywhere a clean and waterproof seal is needed.

How do I choose the correct size of silicone smoothing tool?

Select the size based on the width of the joint. Our sets include several sizes to cover various applications.

Silicone smoothing tools come in different widths, typically from 10 mm to 24 mm. Narrow tools are best for fine sealing, while wider joints require broader tools. Our multi-size sets allow flexibility when dealing with various joint widths on the same project, ensuring optimal results everywhere.

How do I clean grouting tools after use?

Clean them with warm water and mild detergent, then allow them to dry thoroughly.

Clean the tools immediately after use before material can dry on them. Silicone smoothing tools can be rinsed directly under warm water. Other tools may require mild detergent to remove residue. Dry everything completely before storage to prevent corrosion or wear and to ensure the tools stay ready for the next job.

Can I use the grout cleaning set outdoors?

Yes, it is suitable for indoor and outdoor use, including terraces, patios and façades.

The grout cleaning set works effectively on algae, moss and weather deposits on outdoor flooring and surfaces, as well as on limescale and dirt in indoor wet rooms. It cleans efficiently without damaging tile or stone, making it ideal for long-term maintenance of outdoor and indoor grout.

How can I prevent grout from becoming dirty or moldy again after cleaning?

Apply a grout sealer or grout protection pen to protect against moisture and dirt.

A grout protection pen forms an invisible, water-repellent coating that prevents moisture and dirt from penetrating the joint. This significantly reduces mold growth and discoloration. It is especially recommended in bathrooms, showers, kitchens and outdoor areas exposed to moisture.

What should I watch out for when using the Diamond Grout Cleaner to avoid damage?

Use controlled, gentle pressure and avoid pressing too hard.

The Diamond Grout Cleaner is efficient, but should be guided carefully. Excessive pressure can damage grout or scratch tiles. Move the tool slowly and evenly for precise cleaning results and to ensure the best protection for surrounding surfaces.

Are these tools suitable for epoxy resin joints?

No, epoxy resin joints require special tools due to their hardness.

Epoxy grout is extremely hard and resistant. Standard grout cleaning and removal tools are not designed to process these joints effectively. For epoxy grout, specialized professional tools are necessary to avoid damage and ensure proper results.

How should I store my grouting tools properly?

Store tools clean, dry and protected in a storage box.

After cleaning, allow the tools to dry completely and store them in a dry, dust-free space. Proper storage prevents surface wear, keeps edges sharp and ensures your tools stay ready for long-term use.
