The Karl Dahm levelling system has been on everyone's lips for some time now. The tile formats are getting bigger and bigger, the joints are getting narrower and narrower. It is becoming increasingly difficult to lay XXL tiles evenly without excess teeth. If it weren't for the Karl Dahm levelling system with the practical basic sets, many tilers would capitulate to these formats.
With our basic sets you can get an impression of what it is like to work with the tile levelling system. You'll quickly see that it doesn't require any significant additional effort. As soon as you have used the basic sets of levelling systems once or twice, you will quickly become accustomed to this method of installation.
The Karl Dahm basic sets each contain 50 rotary knobs and 250 threaded lugs. Depending on the size of your tiles and the width of your joints, the consumption of the threaded lugs and knobs also depends.
Please note that the knobs are reusable.
Before laying, prepare the substrate so that it is absolutely level. Although the Basic Set levelling system is designed to avoid excess teeth, it is not suitable for levelling hollow layers of several millimetres!
Step 1: Apply the tile adhesive to the prepared substrate and insert the first tile (tip: To avoid hollow layers, make sure you use the buttering-floating method for large formats, you will find more on this here!) Now place the first basic threaded lugs of the basic set on the side of the tile to which the next tile is to be applied. The base plate of the base flaps should disappear halfway under the tile. Depending on the side length of the tile, you can insert two to three base flaps. Now the next tile can be laid. The base plates of the threaded flaps should now disappear completely under the tiles, only the thread should protrude. Proceed as follows for the next three to four tiles (you should still be able to reach the threaded lugs without any problems).
Step 2: If, for example, you have laid the first row of tiles, the rotary knobs of the basic set can now be turned onto the threaded lugs. Do not initially turn the knobs (also known as pull straps or pull hoods) onto the threaded lugs with a complete pull. This automatically lifts the adjacent tiles to the same level. Once all the knobs have been turned onto the threaded brackets, you can adjust and readjust them as required. Now you can continue with the next row of tiles. Proceed in this way over the entire surface to be laid and then allow the adhesive to cure completely.
Step 3: After the adhesive bed has cured completely, you can unscrew the reusable rotary knobs and break off or step away from the threaded lugs at your predetermined breaking point. Either an abrasion-resistant rubber hammer or simply your toes are suitable for this. Attention: always break off the threaded lugs in the direction of the joint!
Step 4: Remove the broken threads of the basic straps and the knobs from the floor. The knobs can be collected and stored in the existing transport bucket of the basic set. You can then grout as usual.

NEW: For sensitive and structured surfaces there are now special washers (Art. 12489) for the levelling system rotary knobs. The perfect complement to all basic sets. To prevent abrasion on sensitive tile materials, the washers can simply be placed between the tile and the rotating cap. They protect both the floor and the rotating cap from dirt, so you can reuse them more often. Your wallet and your customers will thank you for it.
