Edge processing and edge bonding for porcelain stoneware, natural stone and more

The subject of edge processing and edge bonding for tiles, porcelain stoneware, natural stone and similar materials is becoming increasingly important. For years, the common edge finishes have included the processing of aluminium, plastic or stainless steel rails. However, AKEMI offers a new possibility here with its Colour-Bond system for the bonding of tile edges. The advantage of this system is that the colour of the adhesive can be matched to the colour of the material and a very harmonious visual appearance is created.

Edge processing - Clean tile edges cut

To be able to glue tile edges, they must first be broken or cut cleanly and accurately. Machining is necessary for this. There are already several cutting systems on the market that facilitate edge processing. Which system is best here depends on the requirements of the materials and the later use of the tiles. For example, a different system is suitable for processing skirting boards and narrow edge profiles than for cutting thick terrace tiles or natural stone tiles.

Base and edge processing with the milling and cutting slide

The milling and cutting slide from Karl Dahm is suitable for machining narrow bases. In combination with the electrically adjustable angle grinder Art. 40265 and the diamond cutting disc Turbo Art. 50260 you can cut perfect edges in no time. The milling and cutting slide Art. 40667 is available individually or with angle grinder and cutting disc in a set (Art. 42667).

The application of the milling and cutting slide

The milling and cutting slide is simply guided along the tile edge for cutting. For narrow bases, an optional table attachment is available which can be permanently mounted to the worktable. The skirtings are then guided along the guide rail and thus cut or milled. Mitres of 40-50° can be cut on the cutting and milling slide. Our new diamond cutting and grinding wheel Allround Art. 50352 is also ideally suited for cutting tile edges.

edge processing - cutting XXL tiles

For the processing of e.g. large and thick terrace slabs or natural stone up to 2 cm thick, a stone cutting machine is essential. The Karl Dahm Super Cut stone cutting machine (e.g. Art. 30071 cutting length 1000 mm) in combination with the diamond cutting disc TERR Ultra delivers excellent cutting results with this demanding material. Even hard porcelain stoneware is no problem for these high-quality tools. The perfect complement for mitre cuts is the new Super Cut holding system for large tiles. In our application video you can see the processing of a large porcelain stoneware tile with the TERR Ultra diamond cutting disc.

edge processing - chamfering edges

After cutting the edges it is recommended to chamfer the cut edges to avoid chipping or chipping. With the chamfering slide Art. 40701 by Karl Dahm you can create beautiful, clean edge profiles. The chamfering slide is infinitely adjustable in an angle of 22-90°. New in our program is the grinding wheel Powerspeed Art. 50488 with grit 50. This high performance grinding wheel produces an optimal stock removal and a homogeneous grinding pattern. It is characterized by a particularly long service life. A table top is also available for the chamfering slide Art. 40708.

Edge bonding - The Akemi Colour Bond System

Colour-Bond colour cartridge with mixing nozzle (Art. 12070, 1 piece included)

2-component joint press gun for Colour-Bond ink cartridges Art. 11126

The new Colour Bond system is perfect when unobtrusive edges are required or desired. The 2-component system is easy to apply thanks to its gel-like, soft consistency. The Colour Bond hardens within 6-7 minutes (depending on the ambient temperature) and can then be polished to an excellent finish. The Colour Bond colour adhesive cartridges are so-called side-by-side cartridges which can be used with the 2-component joint pressure gun Art. 11126. Special mixing nozzles are suitable for the application of the Colour Bond, which mix the paint with the adhesive so that the adhesive can be applied immediately into the joint. The mixing nozzles are available in packs of 12 (Art. 12070). When buying a Colour Bond paint cartridge, a mixing nozzle is included.

Clean and fast application

The Colour Bond colour adhesives are available in over 50 colours:

We have all colours in stock for you. The Colour Bond System is suitable for indoor use. The Akemi Everclear system (see below) is suitable for bonding edges in outdoor areas.

The Colour Bond Magic colours

The special feature of these 6 colour variants is that they adapt optimally to the surrounding colour. This is an advantage, for example, with patterned natural stones. This makes the Magic colours universally applicable.

The Akemi Everclear system for outdoor use

The Akemi Everclear system is suitable for permanent bonding of large-area, light-coloured ceramics indoors and outdoors. This system also consists of a coloured 2-component adhesive, which can be applied with the special 2-component joint pressure gun art. 12970 or art. 12987. The Everclear system has excellent adhesion properties and is almost non-yellowing. It is weather resistant and allows for wide adhesive gaps. The Everclear colour cartridges are available in 6 different colour directions.
